Official Story - Collapse
The 2005 Mustang GT is the first mainstream production Mustang to break into the 300-horsepower arena. The 4.6-liter aluminum V-8 has three-valve per cylinder and cranks out 300 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of torque, while the new SOHC V-6 engine generates 210 horsepower and 240 lb.-ft. of torque—in both cases, an improvement from the 2004 Mustang powertrains. And the all-new specially tuned intake manifold balances sound characteristics with maximum airflow, assuring a Mustang engine throaty growl that sounds as good as it performs.

--Rock Solid Rear Axle All the horsepower in the world doesn't mean a thing if you can't get the power to the ground. With that in mind, Mustang engineers developed a solid, new rear axle design with three-link architecture and a Panhard rod, for better off the line performance, and other advantages. Solid axles are robust, maintain constant track, and keep body roll under control. The solid axle pumping out torque to the rear wheel is an especially inviting feature for performance enthusiasts.

--Advanced Front Suspension Mustang boasts an overall ride sophistication unmatched by any of its ancestors. The coil-over MacPherson strut front suspension with reverse “L” lower control arms redefines precision handling and responsiveness without sacrificing ride quality, smoothness or comfort. What you get: great driving dynamics for more corner-carving, joy-filled driving.

--A front end with attitude. Rooted in the unmistakable heritage that gave birth to an icon, the 2005 Mustang is a bold, powerful, contemporary version of history's most celebrated muscle car. An aggressive forward-leaning reverse grille and new jeweled-round headlamps in trapezoidal housings deliver a striking new design flair.

--Long hood, wheels forward The classic long hood and short rear deck combine with front wheels pushed forward and a slightly raised back end to enhance the rear-wheel-drive look and give the Mustang design a forward thrust. Pushing the wheels to the corners resulted in a 6-inch wheelbase gain over the 2004 model for better stance, balance and increased interior width--a benefit to the Mustang passengers, since which the extra space increases driver and passenger room

--Gripping profile Large, aggressive tires and aluminum-spoked wheels scream power and performance.

--Tri-bar taillamps Tri-bar taillamps highlight the rear of the car with a circular Mustang badge centered in the rear face of the deck lid.
